Tanzania has cancelled its planned international friendly against Morocco after five Taifa Stars players suffered injuries while the team was in camp in Tangier.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) said the match, which had been scheduled for October 5 in Morocco as part of the FIFA international calendar, was called off following a medical assessment of the players.
According to TFF, medical reports from the Taifa Stars camp showed that five players had sustained injuries that would prevent them from taking part in the match.
The federation said it consulted head coach Miguel Gamondi before agreeing to cancel the fixture. The players and technical staff have since been informed of the decision.
Taifa Stars had travelled to Morocco with 23 players for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Madagascar, which was played in Meknes on September 29.
The team was then scheduled to remain in Morocco for the additional international fixtures during the FIFA window, including the planned meeting with the hosts.
TFF did not identify the five injured players or disclose the nature or severity of their injuries in its October 3 statement. The federation also did not announce whether another opponent would be arranged to replace the cancelled Morocco fixture.
The cancellation comes after Tanzania’s opening AFCON 2027 qualifying matches. Taifa Stars lost 2-0 to Guinea-Bissau in Zanzibar on September 24 before facing Madagascar in their second qualifying match in Morocco.
Tanzania is already guaranteed a place at AFCON 2027 as one of the three co-hosts alongside Kenya and Uganda, but the team is still participating in the qualifying competition.
The Morocco friendly would have given Gamondi another opportunity to assess his squad during the international window and prepare players for upcoming national-team commitments.
