Zambia’s Presidential Candidate, Mandubile, tells Tanzanians allegedly hired to leave the country

Zambian opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has told Tanzanians allegedly hired to take part in the country’s election to leave, accusing some people of trying to introduce what he called a “Tanzania formula” into Zambia.

Mundubile made the remarks during the presidential election, insisting that the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) could not win the election.

“The UPND cannot win this election. Never. There is no miracle they can perform to win this election. So, there is no Tanzania formula here. Zambia is not Tanzania. Zambia is not Tanzania,” Mundubile said.

He went on to describe Zambia as a Christian nation and said Christians were praying for the country during the election.

“Our God, our Lord, shines His light upon this country. This is a Christian nation. Every Christian is on their knees today to pray, and we shall do our part as Christians,” he said.

Mundubile then criticised those he accused of attempting to bring ideas that had worked in Tanzania into Zambia.

“So, for those who think they can import the ideas that worked in Tanzania into this country, you got it all wrong. So, my dear colleagues from Tanzania who have been hired, please get out of this country and go back, please,” he said.

His remarks come as Zambia’s electoral process faces uncertainty after the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) suspended the counting of presidential votes following reports of violence, threats and alleged vote-rigging.

Mundubile had declared himself the winner of the presidential election on Friday, before the ECZ suspended the counting process.
