30 Years Later, Tupac’s Murder Case is Set to Begin

Nearly 30 years after the fatal shooting of rap legend Tupac Shakur, the long-awaited murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis is set to begin next week, marking a major milestone in one of the most high-profile unsolved cases in music history.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10, with the trial expected to last at least four weeks.

Davis was arrested in September 2023 and charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors alleged he orchestrated the drive-by shooting that killed Tupac in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. The rapper died six days later, on September 13, at the age of 25.

For decades, the case remained unsolved despite numerous investigations, conspiracy theories and public speculation. Prosecutors say Davis, a former gang member, played a central role in organizing the attack that claimed the life of one of hip-hop’s most influential artists.

If convicted, the 62-year-old faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole under Nevada law.
