DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi Goes to Tanzania for Working Visit

Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo is expected in Tanzania today for a working visit at the invitation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Tshisekedi is scheduled to arrive in Tanzania on Monday, August 17, 2026, for talks with President Samia on cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

According to the Tanzanian government, the visit follows an invitation from President Samia and will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During the visit, Tshisekedi will hold talks with President Samia, with discussions expected to centre on cooperation between Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two leaders are also expected to address the media after their discussions.

Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo have longstanding historical and social ties, with the two countries continuing to strengthen cooperation across several areas of development.

Their relationship has also been supported by close economic and regional links, with Tanzania serving as an important transit route for goods destined for and from eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tshisekedi’s visit comes as both countries continue to pursue stronger bilateral cooperation and comes amid wider efforts by countries in the region to deepen economic and political ties.
