Four Ugandan Boxers Reportedly Missing After Commonwealth Games in Scotland

Ugandan authorities are seeking answers after four members of the country’s boxing team were reported missing in Scotland following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Police Scotland confirmed they had received reports that several members of the Ugandan boxing delegation were unaccounted for after the Games and said officers were working alongside the UK Home Office to establish their whereabouts.

Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi told NBS Sport that only two of the six-member boxing team had returned to Uganda. Those who have not yet returned are team captain Nuhu Batte, alongside Angel Katushabe, Emily Nakalema, and another male boxer.

Muhangi said the two athletes who returned to Uganda arrived on Monday evening, while the federation continues to wait for official communication regarding the whereabouts of the remaining four team members.

The reported disappearances came after nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations participated in the Commonwealth Games, which concluded on Sunday with a closing ceremony in Glasgow.

Authorities have not indicated whether the missing athletes are suspected of committing any offence, and Police Scotland has not released further details about the ongoing investigation.

The incident has sparked concern within Uganda’s sporting community, with officials awaiting updates from both Scottish authorities and the UK Home Office before determining the next course of action.

Cases involving athletes or officials remaining abroad after international competitions are not unprecedented. In recent years, several delegations from African countries have reported similar incidents, often prompting immigration investigations and diplomatic engagement between the countries involved.

For now, Ugandan boxing officials say their priority is obtaining verified information about the four missing athletes and ensuring their safety as investigations continue.
