Kenyan runners continued their strong record in long-distance athletics by taking most of the top honours at the 2026 CRDB Bank International Marathon held in Dar es Salaam.
Kenya produced a clean sweep in the women’s 42-kilometre race, taking first, second and third positions. Kenyan athletes also secured the top two places in the men’s full marathon, with Tanzania’s Marco Sylvester finishing third.
Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum won the men’s 42km race after completing the course in 2:15:33. His victory earned him a prize of Sh12 million.
In the women’s full marathon, Loyce Joy Kemuma of Kenya claimed the title after crossing the finish line in 2:33:26. She also received Sh12 million for winning the race.
Kenya’s success continued in the 21km half marathon, where Simon Kelenzyoki won the men’s race.
Kelenzyoki received a prize of TZS 6 million, equivalent to approximately KSh293,000 based on the August 14 exchange rate.
Rebecca Chepkwemoi completed Kenya’s dominance in the half marathon by winning the women’s 21km race. She received TZS 6 million for her victory.
The results gave Kenyan athletes victories across all four headline categories of the marathon, while Tanzania’s Sylvester provided the host country with a place on the men’s full-marathon podium.
The strong Kenyan performance once again highlighted the country’s longstanding success in long-distance running, with its athletes continuing to perform strongly in major road races across the region.
For Tanzania, the event also provided an opportunity for local runners to compete against some of the leading distance athletes from Kenya and other countries.
