‘I Will Tell The Truth’: Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp After Jorge Jesus Press Conference

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team training camp on the eve of the country’s Nations League match against Denmark, saying he will eventually explain the reasons behind his decision.

The 41-year-old Portugal captain announced his departure in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, shortly after a press conference by national team coach Jorge Jesus and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.

“Following the national team coach’s press conference, and after a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team’s training camp,” Ronaldo wrote.

He added that he would explain his reasons at a later time.

“In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself,” Ronaldo said.

The announcement comes after several days of uncertainty surrounding the forward’s involvement with Portugal. Ronaldo was left on the bench for the entire 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway on Sunday, having started Portugal’s previous match against Wales.

The situation became more uncertain this week after Ronaldo missed Portugal training. The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed that he did not take part in Wednesday’s final session before the Denmark match, while Jesus denied reports that the player had refused to train.

Jesus had also indicated that Ronaldo would not start against Denmark, despite the player being Portugal’s captain and all-time leading scorer. Reports of tensions between the player and coach subsequently intensified, although neither side has publicly confirmed the precise nature of any dispute.

Ronaldo ended his statement by wishing Portugal and his teammates well.

“Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and all my teammates, without exception,” he wrote.

The Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed that Ronaldo has left the team’s camp in Copenhagen. The remaining squad members will continue preparations for the upcoming matches.

Ronaldo has not said he is retiring from international football, and his statement does not make clear whether his departure is temporary or marks a permanent break with the national team. For now, he has said only that he will explain the reasons behind his decision “in due time.”
